Healthcare for Homeless at Unity
We offer quality health care services at shelters in the District for our most vulnerable population, people experiencing homelessness. We started this work over 30 years ago and are dedicated to continuing to offer this much needed service to our community. CODA (Comprehensive Medical Care for Deaf Adults and Children) Clinic
Unity understands that having a health care provider that can communicate to you in your language helps to make a medical appointment less stressful. That is why Unity offers CODA, a clinic specializing in deaf patient care with a provider fluent in ASL at Upper Cardozo Health Center on the 1st Friday of each month from 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM.
Opioid Recovery Program
Unity providers are committed to helping our patients who may be battling opioid addiction. MAT is a treatment program for opioid addiction with Buprenorphine (Suboxone), support groups, counseling, peer support, and case management are also offered through this program. Our Teen Clinic is a safe, friendly, and comfortable place for teens to get healthcare. The Teen Clinic is at our Brentwood, Parkside, and East of the River Health Centers. Unity staff at our Teen Clinics love working with teens and young adults and will listen to you about any of your health concerns.
All Unity locations offer pregnancy testing and counseling about pregnancy options. Pregnancy test visits can be a scheduled appointment or a same-day walk-in visit. Starting prenatal care as soon as possible can improve the health of both mother and baby.
Pregnancy testing and prenatal care are available regardless of your ability to pay or insurance status.
PrEP at Unity
What is PrEP?
PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a highly effective method of preventing HIV. It is a medication that can be taken to prevent contracting HIV. It’s about 99% effective in preventing HIV when taken every day and can be used by anyone who is having sex regardless of their gender identity (male, female, transgender, non-binary, etc.) and sexual orientation (heterosexual, bisexual, gay, etc.).
It can also be used by people who inject drugs and pregnant women.
WIC is a health and nutrition program that helps families by providing nutrition education, healthy supplemental foods, and making referrals to healthcare and community services.
You may qualify to receive free food and nutrition counseling if you are pregnant, postpartum, or have a child ages 0-5.
Insurance statement: Unity Health Care provides people in Washington, DC with quality healthcare regardless of ability to pay. We accept all patients including those with Medicare, Medicaid, AmeriHealth Caritas, MedStar Family Choice DC, CareFirst Community Health Plan, and private insurance. Based on your income you may qualify for free or discounted fees. Please see the sliding fee scale.
