What is PrEP?
PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a highly effective method of preventing HIV. It is a medication that can be taken to prevent contracting HIV. It’s about 99% effective in preventing HIV when taken every day and can be used by anyone who is having sex regardless of their gender identity (male, female, transgender, non-binary, etc.) and sexual orientation (heterosexual, bisexual, gay, etc.). It can also be used by people who inject drugs and pregnant women.
PrEP is only to prevent HIV. It cannot protect you from contracting other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or prevent pregnancy.
