JOSE A. APONTE APPOINTED CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER OF UNITY HEALTH CARE

Vincent A. Keane, Chief Executive Officer of Unity Health Care, announced the appointment of Jose A. Aponte to the position of Chief Operating Officer of Unity Health Care effective June 23, 2003. That position was approved as part of Unity Health Care’s organizational restructuring of January 2003.

“I want to be the first to extend my sincere congratulations to Jose.” Said Keane. “I conducted an external and internal search, and Jose emerged as the strongest candidate. I am doubly delighted because I have been able to promote from within Unity.” Keane added.

As Chief Operating Officer, Aponte will be mainly responsible for the internal management of Unity Health Care. Reporting directly to Keane, he will oversee Unity Health Care’s operational team made up by the Chiefs of Clinical Operations, Finance, Planning & Grants Management, and Development & Marketing.

Aponte joined Unity Health Care as Chief of Development & Marketing in July 2001. He has been the driving force behind Unity Health Care’s increased visibility through the creation of various instruments such a the organization’s website and quarterly newsletter, through his active participation in community events, and relationship-building with peer organizations. He developed a private funding program initiative that has resulted in several new private grants. During his tenure as Chief Development & Marketing Officer, Aponte also served as Interim Director of Human Resources for a period of four months until the present Director of Human Resources was identified and recruited. He will continue to oversee Unity Health Care’s Development and Marketing functions until such time as a replacement for that position is recruited.

Aponte’s thirty-one years of experience in the management and operations of nonprofit organizations, and his understanding of Unity Health Care’s challenges and opportunities will be an asset to the organization in his new role. “I feel honored to serve Unity Health Care in this new position.” Aponte said. He added, “I’m a true believer in inclusion and in the value of personal relationships so it should come as no surprise that among my priorities will be enhancing Unity Health Care’s customer service and staff morale.
