Medical Outreach Van
The Medical Outreach Van provides medical and social services to homeless men and women in the areas where they congregate. By providing service on a consistent schedule, Unity has gained the confidence of this population. The van goes out every night from Monday through Friday and on Friday mornings. A doctor or physician assistant, a medical assistant and a social worker provide the service right on the spot or refers the patients to a Unity Health Center in the city when the medical needs exceed the potential for service in the van. The van has 12 regular stops throughout the week including 13th & NY Ave, NW; St. Elizabeth’s Shelter; Franklin School Shelter; 15th & I Streets, NW; Crummel Shelter, NY Ave, Shelter, Miriam’s Kitchen, Grace Church; and Farragut, Franklin and Lafayette Parks. The program is funded though Federal funds provided under the 330 H grant program and other private funding available to Unity Health Care.
