Chinese Delegates Visit Unity Health Care’s First Street Health Clinic & Project Orion

In a visit to the Washington, DC area, Chinese health and other public officials responsible for the monitoring and provision of services to people with HIV/AIDS, STD, and substance abuse in China met with Unity Health Care, Inc.  The Chinese delegation visited UHC’s First Street Health Clinic, as well as the Project Orion Van program, which are funded by DC APRA.

Chinese Officials were briefed on Unity Health Care, Inc. as a whole; the First Street Health Clinic, Project Orion Van, and all services provided by APRA that its treatment center offers at 1st Street, NE

 

Kevin Shipman, APRA Chief of the Office of Special Programs, welcomed the group and briefed them on the substance abuse program available in the District of Columbia. William Stewart; the acting head of APRA, Greg Chen, Director of the Office of Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs, and Vincent Keane, CEO of Unity Health Care, Inc. were also on hand to welcome the visiting delegation.

After the briefing, Julie Alrich, manager of the First Street Health Clinic took the visitors on a tour of the facility, which was followed by a visit to the Project Orion Van guided by Derrick White, manager of that program.

     

In welcoming the group, Vincent Keane highlighted Unity’s strengths made possible by the hard work of its dedicated staff.  He introduced those present and made special mention of Dr. Janelle Goetcheus’ 20-year history of service to people with HIV/AIDS.  Mr. Keane also emphasized the importance of Unity Health Care’s robust diversity and thanked the Chinese visitors for sharing their own diversity of service with all of us on this historical day.
