Washington, DC – Wednesday, October 19, 2011, Diana Lapp, MD, received the prestigious DCHA Haynes Rice Community Service Award for her work with the incarcerated in the District of Columbia jail. The DCHA Haynes Rice Community Service Award is presented for meritorious
service to improve the health status of the communities served by DCHA members by demonstrating leadership to solve problems and overcome barriers to cooperative action.

Unity Health Care Participates in a “Topping Out” Event for its New Anacostia Health Center
Washington, DC – On Friday, August 5, 2011, Unity Health Care, Inc. (Unity), DC Primary Care Association (DCPCA), and Forrester Construction Company will participate in a “Topping Out” event at the construction site of an upcoming “new” state of the art community health center that will situated east of the Anacostia River currently operated by Unity Health Care.

DR. Janelle Goetcheus RECOGNIZED for her Service to Homeless Patients
Washington, DC – Unity Health Care’s (Unity) Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice
President, Dr. Janelle Goetcheus has been chosen to receive the National Health Care for the
Homeless Council’s Distinguished Service Award. The award was presented on Thursday, June
23, 2011 at the HRSA supported 2011 National Health Care for the Homeless Conference and
Policy Symposium at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Washington, D.C. Over eight hundred providers,
social workers and homeless advocates stood and applauded Dr. Goetcheus for her twenty‐five
(25) years of deep commitment and profound compassion in serving homeless patients in
Washington, D.C. This award in recognition of Dr. Goetcheus’ lifetime of service has been
presented by the National Health Care for the Homeless Council to fellow pioneers in the
movement, Dr. Phillip Brickner, New York and Jeff Singer, Baltimore, MD. The award is even
more significant because it is a recognition of Dr. Goetcheus by her colleagues in the Clinicians
Network of the National Health Care for the Homeless Council.
Federal Health Officials Visits Unity Health Care's Upper Cardozo Health Center To Observe It’s Electronic Medical Records (EMR) System
Washington, DC – On June 13, 2011 the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and Federal Health Community (FHC) visited Unity Health Care's (Unity) Upper Cardozo Health Center. Unity Health Care is a federally qualified community health center serving over 82,000 underserved residents in the District of Columbia.

DC and Provides Primary Health Care Services to their Newly
Established Health Works! Program
On Wednesday, April 6, 2011, Pathways to Housing DC (Pathways) announced the opening of
Health Works! a program that will provide integrated mental and primary medical care services
to homeless individuals that have been diagnosed with severe psychiatric disorders and/or a
history of substance abuse. Pathways received a five (5) year grant award from the Substance
Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) to support this effort.

Unity Health Care Gala Marks 25 Years of Caring for
the District’s Medically Underserved Residents
Washington –On Friday, December 3, 2010, more than 500 supporters of Unity Health
Care (Unity) joined the leadership of this DC nonprofit organization as it celebrated its 25th
Anniversary in providing health and human services to the medically underserved in every
ward of the District of Columbia. The Gala, themed “Hope, Health and Healing…Continuing
the Journey” was held in the Grand Ballroom of the Washington Hilton Hotel located at 1919
Connecticut Avenue, NW. Unity’s 25th Anniversary Benefit Gala included acknowledgments,
dinner, dancing, and celebration. WUSA 9 NEWS NOW anchor Dr. JC Hayward served as
Mistress of Ceremonies and Honorary Chair for the evening. Among the guest,
Councilmember David Catania, DC At‐Large, Ward‐6 Councilmember Tommy Wells and
remarks given by Dr. Mary Wakefield, Administrator at Health Resources and Service
Administration. In her absent, First Lady Michelle Obama pre‐corded a congratulatory

Unity Health Care (Unity) is Awarded $1.3 Million
Licensure and Software from Microsoft
Washington, DC – In 2009, Unity Health Care (Unity) successfully implemented a Practice
Management and Electronic Health Records (EHR) System (eClinical Works) at Unity Health Center sites.
Recently, Microsoft Corp. collaborated with Unity by providing the largest “in kind” donation in Unity’s
history – a $1.3 million dollar donation of software and licensure ‐ which will support the upgrade of
computer software and servers.
Columbia Road Health Services Joins Unity Health
Care’s Network of Community Health Centers
WASHINGTON, DC –Unity Health Care (Unity) expands its network of services by
merging with Columbia Road Health Services (CRHS). By joining the Unity family, CRHS
will belong to a larger FQHC that has the infrastructure and capacity to support the
overall administrative needs of this longstanding organization. As a result, CRHS will
continue to focus on the mission, operations, and dedication to providing direct quality
care to all its patients.
Unity Health Care is Awarded $230,000 from
Carefirst BlueCross and BlueShield for a New 34–Foot Mobile Medical Outreach Vehicle
Washington DC – Unity Health Care (Unity) and CareFirst BlueCross and BlueShield (CareFirst)
will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony launching Unity’s newly acquired Mobile Medical Outreach
Vehicle. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 4, 2010, in front of the 801 East Health Center, East Building on the grounds of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital located at
2700 Martin Luther King, Jr., S.E., Washington, DC.
Unity Health Care Is Awarded $12 Million Through The Recovery Act
To Build & Renovate Community Health Centers In Wards 1 & 8
Washington, DC – December 9, 2009, Vincent A. Keane, President/CEO of Unity Health
Care, Incorporated (Unity) attended President Barack Obama’s televised press
conference held in the South Court Auditorium on the grounds of the White House. The
President announced $600 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
(Recovery Act) funding, which has been awarded to support major construction and
renovation projects at 85 community health centers nationwide. Unity was one of the
85 awardees, receiving $12 million through the Recovery Act. “Studies show that people
living near a health center are less likely to go to the emergency room and less likely to
have unmet critical medical needs. CHC are proven to reduce ethnic and racial
disparities in care. And the medical expenses of regular CHCs patients are nearly 25
percent lower than those folks who get their care elsewhere – 25 percent lower,”
President Obama stated.
